Five Interesting and Doable Wedding Trends for 2019

Coral themed bridesmaid dresses

2019 color of the year - living coralThe Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral

Pantone chose “Living Coral” as its 2019 Color of the Year. Living Coral is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge,” according to Pantone. Look for Living Coral everywhere – from wall paint to garden flowers and of course, wedding themes.

Simple. Classic Couture

Thanks to Meghan Markle, a return to timeless styles. Think Audrey Hepburn, the 1950s… less is more. For a fun trip back in time, sally over to Miranda’s Vintage Bridal in Tremont.

Bridesmen and Groomsgirls

“By the time I was asked to be a groomsman, I had never even been a bridesmaid. Growing up, my best friends were boys. It’s not that I didn’t have any female friends – I did then and I do now, and I love them all. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when I was asked to be a groomsgirl at my brother’s wedding,” says Lindsay Pietroluongo on Wedding Wire. Check out this article, “What it’s REALLY Like to Be a Groomsgirl.”

Eco-Conscious Weddings

The Royals pushed the frontier of 2019’s trends not only in fashion but this focus: environmentally friendly decor and local foods. Check out these plantable wedding invitations by Botanical Paperworks.

Thank You Red Foxes!

Once a year, the Red Foxes group holds a regional luncheon, inviting 24 other Red Hat groups. Red Hat ladies 50 and over wear red and purple, and under, pink and lavender. It’s for fellowship; ladies go out to dinner, tea rooms – last week the Red Foxes went to a “mum” festival.

The organization – started in the United States – has gone international. At today’s luncheon, Red Foxes will get together with the Sizzling Sisters, the Curvacious Honeybees, Razzledazzle Sweethearts, Ruby Darlings and other humorously named groups. The Pop Tarts will perform in their Go-go boots!

Named after the Jenny Joseph poem, the Red Hat ladies are just “girls who want to have fun!”

WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me,
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens,
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickle for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats
and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We will have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised,
When suddenly I am old
and start to wear purple!

Silver (25th) Anniversary Themes

Vintage Anniversary

From 90s couples costume parties to partying like it’s 1919, we’ve got ideas.

Traditional: Silver, silver, silver – to match our graying hair. For a silver anniversary go all out with those swirly wedding calligraphy invites, silver metallic balloons, confetti, even silver Japanese lanterns.

Goofy 80s dress and dance party: Think big hair, Rubiks cubes, day glow fashion and Duran Duran and other mischief. Anyone know how to, like, break dance?

Famous couples costume party: Who was notorious in the 90s? Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain… Johnny Depp and Winona Rider… then Johnny Depp and Kate Moss… and of course Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, aiight?

Vintage: Get the wiggle on, drink some giggle water and put on the Ritz like your great grandparents with everything from sepia photographs to the slang of the time. Dress like sheiks and shebas.

We’ve put together this vintage gallery from the roaring 20s (thanks to the NYPL’s online collection of material whose copyright has expired). Inspiration for typography, fashion and the mood of the time.
